Long has it frustrated us that Aprilia couldn’t make an OEM cam gear tool that actually fit out of the box. Clever tool, but horrible manufacturing. The plasma/water cut base is typically non flat by atleast .015” causing fitment issues. The aggressive cutting also leaves burrs that can and will damage the cylinder head valve cover sealing surface if not deburred before use. The bolt holes need enlargement. The cam gear lobe is also ever so slightly too large to allow the cam gear to slide over. So end users are required to grind this to fit. Being that boss is pinned into blind holes, this part of the tool is not easy to remove for modification by the end user. Oftentimes the cam gear boss is ground too far allowing the gear to drop enough to be a pain to lever it back onto the cam…If you’ve made it this far, can you tell how much we hate this tool?!
All of the above was taken into consideration when redesigning this tool to fit. Fully billet machined aluminum frame for flat mounting and burr free edges. Bolted on (and replaceable!) cam gear boss for long wearing friction free gear sliding. Although this tool will fit 99.9 percent of customers engine without modification, machining on cylinder heads can vary slightly. Being able to easily unbolt this feature to lightly modify makes a world of difference. All required hardware included, looks almost too good to be a tool, and at a lower price point than the Aprilia tool!
